As many rituals and holidays Halloween's origins are a mix: Christianity but Celtic and Gaelic customs, believes and rituals as well.

You can google that or just watch the original movie “Halloween” (1978) by John Carpenter with the then 20 year old Jamie Lee Curtis, who became a global movie star with that role.
